Refocus Recovery training underway for staff and volunteers
Posted on
We heard recently that we have been awarded 5 year funding from the Big Lottery - YIPEE! This will allow us to introduce the Refocus Recovery model of working into our befriending. Recovery in mental health is not 'curing' someone or making them better - it is about helping and supporting someone to live well, whether they have symptoms or not. We will use this way of working to help volunteers to support and encourage their friend towards achieving life goals they have set themselves and to use their befriending to help them to get where they want to be.
Training began with a fantastic all day workshop led by Professor Mike Slade, Head of Recovery and Inclusion at the University of Nottingham. Many volunteers and staff joined together to begin the journey of understanding more about Recovery and Refocus. Everyone left the training inspired and keen to move forwards.
Working Practice and Coaching/Mentoring training will take place for staff and senior volunteers on 17th and 24th January following which we will begin to put it into practice. WATCH THIS SPACE for updates.
